How to Store Saffron?

To prevent the Saffron from losing its quality, it is better to:

  1. Keep it in metal containers or glass vessels.
  2. Do not use plastic containers to store Saffron for a long time for that kind of container to cause Saffron to lose its quality.
  3. If you use glass containers, such containers should not be placed under direct sunlight, as it causes the Saffron to change color and lose its quality.
  4. Saffron must be kept in a dry and cold environment to avoid additional moisture.
  5. Saffron preservation in the refrigerator for a long time:To keep the Saffron in the refrigerator, it must first be infused and then freeze it.Infusing saffron:Make a saffron infusion by adding a small amount of pre-heated liquid (e.g. water, stock or milk depending on your recipe) to the container or mortar, then allow at least 20 minutes for the colour and flavour to infuse out. You can then leave it to infuse overnight in the fridge if you like. There’s no need to strain out the saffron bits unless you’re making something where crystal-clear appearance is important e.g. a jelly.
